1.0 Purpose
1.1 To describe a procedure for Handling of Corrosive and Hazardous Flammable Chemicals.
2.0 Scope
2.1 This standard operating procedure is applicable for Handling of Corrosive and Hazardous Chemicals in
Quality Control laboratory at ABC Pvt. Ltd., Roorkee (UK), India.

4.0 Accountability
4.1 Manager Quality Control is accountable for implementation and compliance with SOP
5.0 Procedure
5.1 Keep all open acid bottles in the tray half filled with sand, inside the fume hood chamber.
5.2 Ensure the availability of Fire-Fighting Equipment Nearby Working Area.
5.3 Ensure the availability of required Adsorbent Nearby the Working Area.
5.4 Always wear hand gloves, nose masks, safety goggles, and other safety gowns, while handling
corrosive and hazardous materials.
5.5 Handle all acids and hazardous materials under the fume hood chamber.
5.6 Keep poisonous material under lock and key and make a record of every use in a logbook.
5.7 Check the Hazardous of the Flammable Liquid before handling and arrange required
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
5.8 Ensure that all Containers and other Glassware in use are properly Cleaned and Dried.
5.9 Ensure the absence of any Hazardous nearby and in Working Area.
5.10 Open the Flammable Liquids only inside the Fuming Hood Chamber.
5.11 Adsorb any Spillages of Flammable Liquids by a suitable Adsorbent
5.12 Keep container Tightly Closed.
5.13 Store Minimum Stock of Flammable Liquid in the Department.
5.14 Discard the acid solutions carefully after diluting with water. Rinse and flush all glassware
thoroughly with running stream of water and then send for final washing.
