1.0 Purpose
1.1 To describe a procedure for operation and calibration of Digital Micrometer.
2.0 Scope
2.1 This procedure is applicable for operation and calibration of Digital Micrometer located at
Chemical Analysis Room in Quality Control Department at ABC Pvt. Ltd.
3.0 Responsibility

4.0 Accountability
4.1 Manager Quality Control is accountable for implementation and compliance with SOP.
5.0 Procedure
5.1 Operation
5.1.1 Ensure that the instrument shall be clean.
5.1.2 Press the ORIGIN button to set the origin
5.1.3 The origin value, ‘0.000’ is display and “P” flashes on LCD. Than press the ORIGIN button again.
5.1.4 The display value will not change while “P” is flashing.
5.1.5 If the “P” disappears indicating the origin has been set.
5.1.6 Open the jaws slowly with the help of thimble and insert the object between it and then
close the jaws. Read the actual reading of the object directly on the LCD of Micrometer.
5.1.7 The least count of the apparatus is 0.001mm.
5.1.8 Keep the apparatus in its box, when not in use.
5.2 Calibration
5.2.1 Digital Micrometer is calibrated by external calibration agencies.
5.3 Cleaning
5.3.1 To clean the instrument, use of a soft cloth soaked in a diluted neutral detergent.
5.3.2 Do not use any organic solvent. It may deform or damage the instrument.
5.4 Precaution
5.4.1 Do not use the micrometer at sites where it will be exposed to oil and water.
5.4.2 Do not store the micrometer at sites where it will be exposed to dust and moisture.
5.4.3 Do not apply an electric engraver to this instrument it may be damage.
