1.0 Purpose
1.1 To describe a procedure for operation and cleaning of centrifuge.
2.0 Scope
2.1 This standard operation and cleaning of Centrifuge located at Chemical Analysis Room in
Quality Control Department at ABC Pvt. Ltd., Roorkee (UK), India.
3.0 Responsibility
Officer QC/ Executive QC Preparation of SOP and follow the procedure as per SOP
Assistant Manager Reviewing and Training of SOP
Manager QC Implementation of SOP
4.0 Accountability
4.1 Manager Quality Control is accountable for implementation and compliance with SOP.
5.0 Procedure
5.1 Operation
5.1.1 Before operating the instrument shall be clean and place on flat surface properly.
5.1.2 Switch on mains power supply.
5.1.3 To ensure that the rotor shall be correctly loaded with its components of tube.
5.1.4 The centrifuge tubes shall be cleaned.
5.1.5 Fill the sample in centrifuge tube and place the tube in tube holder.
5.1.6 Close the lid of centrifuge.
5.1.7 Press the MAINS ON and the timer shall start blinking and display “00.
5.1.8 Press SET to set time (0-60) minutes by pressing set time key.
5.1.9 Set the RPM with help of the speed Rotator provided on the front panel of the instrument.
5.1.10 The RPM display on LCD of instrument.
5.2 Cleaning
5.2.1 Clean all the tube holder thoroughly at regular intervals.
5.2.2 After removing the profiled rubber insert, pore the talcum powder very carefully.
5.2.3 Remove any glass splinters which may be in the tube holder before refitting the rubber inserts.
5.3 Precaution
5.3.1 Instrument shall be place on flat surface properly.
5.3.2 Instrument shall be vibration free performance.
5.3.3 Ensure that use of rubber cushions for glass tubes.
5.3.4 Control Manager or his designee informs the defect to Maintenance Department service
engineer to rectify the defect. Affix ‘Under Maintenance’ label on the instrument.
