1.0 Purpose
1.1 To describe a procedure for operation of Vernier Calipers.
2.0 Scope
2.1 This procedure is applicable for operation of Vernier Calipers located at Chemical analysis
room in Quality Control Department at ABC Pvt. Ltd., Roorkee (UK), India.

4.0 Accountability
4.1 Manager Quality Control is accountable for implementation and compliance with SOP
5.0 Procedure
5.1 Operation
5.1.1 Ensure that the instrument is clean.
5.1.2 Press ON/ZERO button, 0.00 mm display on the LCD screen of Digital Vernier calipers.
5.1.3 If there is any deviation, adjust the Vernier Calipers by slightly moving it, so that it
give ‘0.00 mm’ display on the screen of Vernier Calipers otherwise press ON/ZERO button to release the error.
5.1.4 Open the jaws slowly with the help of thimble and insert the object between it and then
close the jaws. Read the actual reading of the object directly on the LCD of vernier calipers.
5.1.5 The least count of the apparatus is 0.01mm.
5.1.6 Keep the apparatus in its box, when not in use.
5.2 Calibration
5.2.1 Vernier Calipers is calibrated by external calibration agencies on yearly basis.
5.3 Cleaning
5.3.1 To clean the instrument, use of a soft cloth soaked in a diluted neutral detergent.
5.3.2 Do not use any organic solvent. It may deform or damage the instrument.
5.4 Precaution
5.4.1 Do not use the Vernier Calipers at sites where it will be exposed to oil and water.
5.4.2 Do not store the Vernier Calipers at sites where it will be exposed to dust and moisture.
5.4.3 Do not apply an electric engraver to this instrument it may be damage.
