Operation and cleaning of hot air oven
1.0 Purpose
1.1 To describe a procedure for operation and cleaning of Hot Air Oven.
2.0 Scope
2.1 This standard operating procedure is applicable for operation and cleaning of
Hot Air Oven located at Quality Control Laboratory at ABC Pvt. Ltd., Roorkee (UK), India.
3.0 Responsibility

4.0 Accountability
4.1 Manager Quality Control is accountable for implementation and compliance with SOP.
5.0 Procedure
5.1 Operation
5.1.1 Ensure that the instrument is clean and free from dust.
5.1.2 Connect the apparatus with main power supply. Switch ON from the mains.
5.1.3 Switch on the heater and allow coming at set temperature.
5.1.4 Adjust the temperature by turning temperature control knob up to 50°C, unless
otherwise specified. This will be displayed by red indicator.
5.1.5 Open the door of chamber and place the glassware to be dried over the perforated plate into the oven chamber.
5.1.6 Close the door, and allow the glassware to dry for a sufficient time.
5.1.7 When glassware become dry, switch off the oven and wait till the temperature comes down to room temperature.
5.1.8 Open the door of chamber and remove the glass wares for routine use.
5.1.9 Report any discrepancy observed during operation of the equipment to Manager-QC
or his authorized representative, and notify the defect to Engineering
Department/ Service Engineer to rectify the defect. Affix ‘Under Maintenance’ label on the instrument.
5.2 Cleaning Procedure
5.2.1 Disconnect the oven from main power supply.
5.2.2 Clean the oven externally with the help of clean dry cloth daily.
5.2.3 Open the door of oven chamber and remove perforated plate. Clean plate with
water, and chamber with wet cloth followed by clean dry cloth once in a month. Place the perforated plate into the oven.
5.3 Calibration
5.3.1 Once a year from outside agency
