1.0 Objective
To lay down a guidelines for Calibration of Melting Point Apparatus in Quality Control Department.
2.0 Scope
This SOP applies to Calibration of Melting Point Apparatus used in Quality control Lab in abc company.
3.0 Responsibility
3.1 Executive – Quality Control.
3.2 In charge/Head.
4.0 Abbreviations and Definitions
SOP : Standard Operating Procedure
QC : Quality Control
CC NO : Change Control Number
cGMP : Current Good Manufacturing Practice
C : Calibration
5.0 Procedure
5.1 First check the instrument is free from dust and foreign matter.
5.2 Now on the Switch of main supply then on the switch of the instrument.
5.3 Fill the beaker with silicon oil / liquid paraffin.
5.4 Take the sample in melting point capillary to form a compact column.
5.5 Adjust the heating rate to Low / High according to the temperature specified.
5.6 Switch on the Lamp and Heater.
5.7 Switch on the “Boost Heater”
5.8 Introduce the capillary tube containing the sample when the temperature is 10° below the expected temperature.
5.9 When the Sample is start to the melts and complete melts note down the temperature using a calibrated thermometer.
5.10 Take standard raw material and check the melting point. Keep standard thermometer. As per list.
Sr. No. Reference Standard Result Temperature Range
