Operation of magnetic stirrer

 

1.0 Purpose
1.1 To describe a procedure for operation of Magnetic Stirrer.

2.0 Scope
2.1 This standard operating procedure is applicable for operation of Magnetic Stirrer

located at Instrument Analysis Room in Quality Control laboratory at A B C Pvt. Ltd., Roorkee (UK), India.

3.0 Responsibility
Officer QC/ Executive QC Preparation of SOP and follow the procedure as per SOP
Assistant Manager Reviewing and Training of SOP
Manager QC Implementation of SOP

4.0 Accountability
4.1 Manager Quality Control is accountable for implementation and compliance with SOP.

5.0 Procedure
5.1 Operation
5.1.1 Ensure that the instrument shall be clean.
5.1.2 Place the sample in beaker or any other flask on the platform of Magnetic Stirrer.
5.1.3 Place the magnate in the solution carefully.
5.1.4 Connect the instrument with main power supply.
5.1.5 Turn ON the magnate motor switches to on position from the right side of the panel.
5.1.6 Adjust the speed of motor by using speed-turning knob.
5.1.7 Turn on the heater switch to ON position if heating is required. Adjust the heating

rate by turning knob to require position.
5.1.8 Check the operation of instrument during operation frequently.
5.1.9 After completion of work remove the container from the platform of Magnetic Stirrer.
5.1.10 Switch OFF the heater and turn to zero heating rate by turning knob.
5.1.11 Turn OFF the stirrer and turn speed knob to zero position.
5.1.12 Remove the magnet from container and clean it properly. Keep the magnet to its storage location.
5.1.13 Clean the equipment after work is over.

5.2 Precaution
5.2.1 Disconnect the power at the time of cleaning of the instrument.
5.2.2 Quality Control Manager or his designee informs the defect to Maintenance department

and service engineer to rectify the defect. Affix ‘Under Maintenance’ label on the instrument.
