sop for calibration and handling of standard weights
1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 The objective of this SOP is to define the procedure for calibration & handling of standard weights using for calibration of electronic weighing balances.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This SOP is applicable for all the standard weights handled and maintained
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Calibration of standard weights:
6.1.1 SS standard weight shall be calibrated yearly by outside NABL approved laboratory.
6.1.2 MS weight calibration shall be done by IPQA person on the frequency of monthly
by using calibrated SS standard weights and weighing balance (as per requirements).
6.1.3 Ensure that balance is calibrated with proper working.
6.1.4 First place the SS weight on the weighing balance pan then same MS weight and record
the reading of both weights in format as mentioned in Format No.
6.1.5 Calibrate the all MS weights one by one.
6.1.6 Difference in SS standard weights and MS standard weights should be ± 0.01%.
6.1.7 In case if variation observed in MS standard weights inform to maintenance department and stop the usage of MS weights.
6.1.8 Put the calibration tag on MS standard weights as per Format No.
6.1.9 MS standard weights shall be used for daily verification of weighing balance and SS weights
shall be used for calibration of weighing balance.
6.2 Handling & Movement of SS standard weights:
6.2.1 All SS standard weight shall be kept in custody of store Incharge.
6.2.2 Store Incharge shall issue the SS weights to QA personnel for calibration purpose.
6.2.3 IPQA person shall move the SS weight box by weights movement trolley in a closed box to respective area.
6.2.4 After completion of work IPQA person shall clean the SS weights with 70% IPA and submit to store in-charge.
6.2.5 Precaution: SS weight shall be used carefully by using hand gloves provided with weight box.
