1.0 OBJECTIVE:
To lay down a procedure for Drying of Silica Gel in Quality Control Lab.
2.0 SCOPE:
This SOP is applicable of procedure for Drying of Silica Gel in Quality Control department
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
Executive/Officer QC/designee.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY:

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Silica gel is most commonly used as a desiccant to control local humidity.
5.2 Silica gel when saturated with moisture indicates that gradually changes its color i.e. from Blue anhydrous state (dry) to pink hydrated state (wet).
5.3 Change silica from instrument if their color properties change as per point 5.2
5.4 Remove all the silica from desiccators (s) and other instrument in a glass tray or suitable pot.
5.5 Silica gel shall be regenerated by heating it to 105°C for three hours.
5.6 Allow the crystals to cool down before you touch them, and then restore them to their perforated containers in your camera bag or cabinet.
5.7 After regeneration silica gel get back color as anhydrous (dry) state.
5.8 Maintain record for drying silica in Annexure – 1
5.9 Do not heat Silica Gel to more than 180° C because it will lose its ability to absorb moisture.
5.10 Store them in an airtight container so that they don’t absorb moisture from the atmosphere when they are not in use.
