General Test Procedure Limit Test Chloride

1. Purpose
   1. This procedure is applicable to all incoming Raw materials.
2. Apparatus
   1. 50ml Nessler Cylinder
3. Reagents
   1. 0.1M Silver Nitrate solution
   2. Dilute Nitric Acid (10%w/w, dilute 106 ml of nitric acid to 1000ml with water)
   3. Sodium chloride A R grade
   4. Chloride Standard Solution (25ppm Cl): Dissolve 82.4 mg of sodium chloride in 100 ml of water; dilute 10 ml of the solution to 200 ml with water. Each ml of the resulting solution contains 25 ppm chloride.
4. Procedure
   1. Test Preparation:
      1. Dissolve the specified quantity of substance in sufficient water and transfer to a 50ml Nessler cylinder. Add 10ml of dilute nitric acid, 1ml of 0.1M silver nitrate solution and dilute to 50ml with water. Stir with glass rod and allow to stand for 5 minutesThe diffusion of the light must be such that reference suspension I can be readily distinguished from water and from reference suspension II.
   2. Standard Preparation
      1. Take 10 ml of chloride standard solution (25 ppm Cl) in a 50ml nessler cylinder. Add 10 of dilute nitric acid 1ml of 0.1M silver nitrate solution and dilute to 50ml with water. Stir with glass rod and allow to stand for 5minutes.
   3. Observation
      1. The opalescence produced in test solution is not more intense than that obtained in standard solution.
