standard testing procedure zinc sulphate
Storage Requirements:
Store protected from light and moisture.
Sampling:
Sample from each container / bag, if the consignment is of 03 or less than three containers / bags. If the number of containers / bags is more than 03and are up to 100, sample at randomly using the formula root (n) +1 where n is the number of containers/bags in the consignment. For the consignment of more than 100 containers/bags, sample additional containers/bags for every 100 containers/bags and thereafter. Collect a minimum of 5g from each of the randomly selected containers/bags in to individually no toxic, self sealing transparent polyethylene bearing ‘Sample for Analysis label kept in another transparent self sealing polythene bag. After completion of sampling return rest sample on the same container. Collect control sample in Pet bottle/Glass bottle.
Quantity of Composite Sample:
10 g
Quantity of Control Sample:
2 X 10 g
Description: Colourless, transparent crystals or a white, crystalline powder; odorless; efflorescent.
Solubility: Very soluble in water; practically insoluble in ethanol (95 per cent).
Identification:
A. Solution a gives the reaction of zinc salt and sulphates.
Appearance of solution: Solution A is clear and colourless.
pH: 4.4 to 5.6.
Arsenic: NMT 10ppm.
Iron: NMT 100ppm.
Chlorides: NMT 250ppm.
Assay: 99.0% to 104.0%w/w of ZNSO4, 7H2O.
Description: Colourless, transparent crystals or a white, crystalline powder; odourless; effervescent.
Solubility: Very soluble in water,
Practically insoluble in ethanol. (95 percent).
Identification:
A. Dissolve 2.5g in sufficient carbon dioxide-free water to produce 50ml (solution A). Solution A gives the reaction of zinc sulphates and sulphates.
Appearance of solution: Solution A is clear and colourless.
pH: 4.4 to 5.6 determined in solution A.
Arsenic: Dissolve 1.0g in 50ml of water and add 10ml of stannated hydrochloric acid AsT. The resulting
Solution complies with the limit test for arsenic (10ppm).
Iron: Dissolve 0.4g in 20 ml of water .The resulting solution complies with the limit test for iron (100ppm).
Chlorides: 20ml of solution A complies with the limit test for chlorides (250ppm).
Assay: Weigh accurately about 0.5g and dissolve in 5ml of 2M acetic acid and dilute to 50 ml with water. To the resulting solution add about 50mg of xylenol orange triturate and sufficient hexamine to produce violet –pink colour. Further, add 2g of hexamine and titrate with 0.1M disodium edetate until the colour changes to yellow.
1 ml of 0.1 M disodium edetate is equivalent to 0.02875 g of ZnSO4, 7H2O.
