1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 To describe a procedure for cleaning of spillage materials in microbiology laboratory.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This procedure is applicable cleaning of spillage materials like Inoculum, Media plate, Media tube, media conical in Microbiology Laboratory

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Material Required
5.1.1 70% Isopropyl alcohol, As per schedule Disinfectant, Mops, Discard polybag, Nonabsorbent cotton.
5.2 Equipments Required
5.2.1 Discard Autoclave
5.3 Method: Handling of Spillage Material
5.3.1 Spillage include liquid, semi solid ,solid and solvent etc.
5.3.2 As soon as spillage observed by any person in microbiology section inform microbiology section incharge immediately.
5.3.3 Micro incharge will manage to clean of spillage material to prevent spreading.
5.3.4 Collect the spillage material in polybag or bucket as per nature of material.
5.3.5 If spillage material is liquid, collect the material with scoop or by cloth and disposing the same.
5.3.6 If spillage material is media immediate spray with 70 % IPA.
5.3.7 During media preparation if conical flask & test tube are cracked during plugging, remove the media collect in discard polybag.
5.3.8 Immediately 70% IPA spray on spillage material (petriplates, media test tube, and Inoculums bottle) in sterile area during microbiological testing.
5.3.9 During observation in case of the spillage of the environment monitoring plate, Bioburden, water plates, selective media plates and pre- incubated.
5.3.10 Immediately 70% IPA spray on spillage materials and collect in discard ploy bag.
5.3.11 Immediately note the Batch No., Lot No., and Plate No. & Date in personal log book of Microbiologist.
5.3.12 Add suitable amount of scheduled disinfectant in discard polybag and tightly close with help of tie. Sterilized in vertical autoclave at 1210C for 30 minutes.
5.3.13 After sterilization of media discard polybag, carry it in location define for discard materials outside of the factory.
5.3.14 Immediately inform to QC manager & QA department.
5.3.15 Micro officer clean the area as per SOP followed by mopping with schedule disinfectant solution.
5.4 Precaution
5.4.1 Hold test tube properly in the test tube stand.
5.4.2 Always keep conical flask, Petri plates and other glassware on the table.
5.4.3 After cleaning, enter into sterile area ensuring that the sterile area floor is completely dry.
5.4.4 Glassware must be washed as quickly as possible after use.
5.4.5 Cracked glassware (Test tube, Conical flask) should never be used.
