General Test Procedure Water Soluble Substances

 

1. Purpose
   1. This procedure is applicable to all incoming Raw materials, In-process and Finished products
2. Apparatus
   1. Calibrated balance
   2. Evaporating dish
   3. Sintered glass crucible-G4 & desiccator
3. Reagents
   1. None
4. Procedure
   1. Place a clean and dry evaporating dish in an oven at 105 °C for 15 minutes. Remove it and keep in a desiccator for 15 minutes. Record the weight.
   2. Unless specified, take 5 g sample in a clean, dry stoppered conical flask. Add 200 ml of water.
   3. Stir mechanically for about 6 hours.
   4. Filter the solution through a sintered glass crucible (G4), and wash with 10 ml of water.
   5. Collect all the filtrate and transfer to a previously weighed dish as in step (i).
   6. Place the dish on a boiling water bath and continue the heating to the dryness of residue.
   7. Take out the dish and clean the bottom with tissue paper (there should not be any deposition /scaling at the bottom of dish).
   8. Keep the dish in an oven at 105 °C for 30 minutes, remove and place it in desiccators, allow it to cool for 15 minutes.
   9. Record the weight of dish with residue and calculate the water soluble substances by formula:
