General Test Procedure Limit Test Sulphate

1. Purpose
   1. This procedure is applicable to all incoming Raw materials.
2. Apparatus
   1. Nessler Cylinder
3. Reagents
   1. 25%w/v Barium chloride solution
   2. 5M acetic acid (Dilute 28.5ml of acetic acid to 100ml with water)
   3. Sulphate standard solution (10ppm SO₄): Dissolve 181mg of potassium sulphate in 100ml of water, dilute 5ml of this solution to 500ml with water. Each ml of the resulting solution contains 10ppm of sulphate.
4. Procedure
   1. Test Preparation

      1. Dissolve the specified quantity of substance in sufficient water, and transfer to a 50ml nessler

                                  cylinder, add 1ml of 25%w/v barium chloride solution, 0.5ml of 5M acetic acid and dilute to

                               50ml with water. Stir with glass rod and allow standing for 5 minutes.

1. 2. Standard Preparation

      1. Take 15ml of sulphate standard solution in a 50ml nessler cylinder, add 1ml of 25%w/v

                                     barium chloride solution, 0.5ml of 5M acetic acid and dilute to 50ml with water. Stir with

                                     glass rod and allow to stand for 5 minutes.

1. 3. Observation

      1. The opalescence produced in test solution is not more intense than that obtained in standard

                                     solution.
