Operation and cleaning of UV bank installed on Purified Water Line

 

1.0 OBJECTIVE :

1.1 To lay down a procedure for Operation and cleaning of UV bank installed in Purified Water Line.

2.0. SCOPE :

2.1 This procedure is applicable for UV lamps of UV bank installed on Purified Water Line situated at Pharma dekho

3.0. RESPONSIBILITY :

3.1 Operator Engineering Department shall be responsible for operation and cleaning of UV bank and maintaining cleaning records.
3.2 Officer/Executive Engineering Department shall be responsible for to verify the proper operation and cleaning and to take corrective action if any operational deviation

4.0. ACCOUNTABILITY :

4.1 Head Engineering Department shall be responsible for compliance of SOP.

5.0. PROCEDURE



5.1 OPERATION OF UV LAMPS:
5.1.1 Switch “ON” the UV bank by isolate the main switch..

5.2 PROCEDURE OF CLEANING OF QUARTZ JACKET:
5.2.1 Clean the quartz jacket by using the manual wiper assembly provided.
5.2.2 Ensure that UV chamber is full with water. Shut off the inlet and outlet valves.
5.2.3 The wiper assembly consist of a wiper shaft on which wiper blades are provided.
5.2.4 The “O” rings / rubber provided on the wiper blades help to clean the quartz glass when the wiper shaft is
manually operated.

5.2.5 Once the cleaning operation using the wiper shaft is completed, open the drain nut to allow the dirty water to flow to drain.
5.2.6 Open the inlet valve and allow water to flow for 2- 3 minutes. Close the drain port by using the drain nut.
5.2.7 Open the outlet valve and take the unit back in to service.
5.2.8 Do not operate the wiper assembly without water in the UV chamber.
5.3 REPLACEMENT OF LAMPS
5.3.1 Stop water supply and disconnect electrical power supply.
5.3.2 Unscrew socket, end covers and remove the snap – on lamp holders.
5.3.3 Carefully slid the old lamps out of the quartz jacket.
5.3.4 Now insert the new ultraviolet lamp carefully in the quartz glass enclosure, then connect the snap-on lamp holders at the end of the lamp. ensure that lamps holders with the same numbered wire are connected to the individual lamps.
5.3.5 Fit the socket end covers in to the socket on the chamber flange.
5.3.6 Connect the mains cord to electrical power supply point, the unit is now ready for use.
Acceptance criteria:
Calculate the cumulative burning hours for the individual lamp till the 9000 burning hours are completed or
the lamp is discarded due to any other reason or intensity becomes less than 24 w/m².
5.4 PROCEDURE OF CALCULATION OF BURNING HOURS:
5.4.1 Whenever the UV lamp is switched ON, note down the time and whenever it is switched OFF note down the time in hours.
5.4.2 Calculate the total burning hours for the day and record in log sheet on daily basis.
5.4.3 Start the same procedure with the new installed lamp.
5.4.4 Give the identification No. to each U V lamp.
5.4.5 Record the intensity of the UV bank on daily basis in annexure-I.
