procedure for Pest and Rodent control
1.0 OBJECTIVE :
To lay down the procedure for safe and effective control of Pests and Rodents control within and surrounding plant premises.
2.0 SCOPE :
This procedure is applicable to Pest and Rodent Control at ABC Pharma Pvt. Ltd.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY :
3.1 Concerned personnel from the authorized contract agency shall carry out the services.
3.2 Supervisor- Housekeeping / Administration Department shall maintain the Pest and Rodent Control records.
3.3 In-charge Housekeeping/Administration is responsible for overall compliance of this procedure.
3.4 Head Quality Assurance to ensure for compliance and implementation of the SOP.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY: HR AND QA
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Precautions
5.1.1 Wear nose mask, goggles, and rubber gloves while spraying pesticides.
5.1.2 Keep the traps away from work areas.
5.1.3 Production areas and areas used for storage of finished products and components shall not be treated without prior approval of Head QA.
5.2 Contract
5.2.1 A contract shall be made with the pest control agency in writing detailing the activities, nature of pesticide used, its concentration, frequency.
5.3 Details of Pest / Rodent Control
5.3.1 Housekeeping/Administration In charge shall prepare the Pest & Rodent control details.
5.3.2 List of services along with frequency shall be prepared according to contract with contract agency.
5.3.3 List of pesticides/rodenticide for each service shall be prepared according to agreement with hired party.
5.3.4 Chemical formula (active ingredient) & method of dilution of each pesticide / rodenticide shall be mentioned.
5.3.5 Area for each service shall be mentioned.
5.4 Pest Control (House Hold Pest Management)
5.4.1 Pests covered under the hose hold pest management are red and black ants, spider, silverfishes, and Cockroaches.
5.4.2 Frequency: for the house hold pest management is once in a month.
5.4.3 Chemical Used:
5.4.3.1 Imidacloprid 2.15% Gel
5.4.3.2 Deltamethrin 2.5%
5.4.4 Area of Treatment: Interior part of the building mainly in cracks and crevices.
5.4.5 Concerned personnel from the agency hired for this service along with QA, Administration / Housekeeping personnel shall visit the area and identify the probable places of insect harborages with respect to entry points, corners, utility lines, cracks, drains, skirting, ceiling, roofs etc.
5.4.6 Based on the identification QA personnel shall prepare the area for spraying pesticide as per.
5.4.7 Pest control shall be carried out by spraying the certified pesticides.
5.4.8 The concerned personnel from the agency hired for this service shall in no case change the chemicals (composition or manufacturer/supplier) enlisted in the contract during entire contract period, without prior information and approval from the Head QA.
5.4.9 The concerned personnel from the agency hired for this service shall treat the identified areas with Imidacloprid gel which is required in very small dose and requires very small size application of bait. This technique is supplemented with liquid pesticide formulation of Deltamethrin and will be applied in cracks and crevice.
5.5 Rodent Control
5.5.1 Concerned personnel from the party hired for this service along with maintenance and Administration /Housekeeping personnel shall identify and locate the probable entry points of rodents in separate areas such as manholes, utility lines, drains etc.
5.5.2 Based on the identification QA personnel shall prepare the layout for each service.
5.5.3 Chemical Used: Roban bromodialone 0.005% and or Trubble gum.
5.5.4 Frequency: Fortnightly.
5.5.5 Sticky glue pads shall be placed near entry points and in dark corners as per layout.
5.5.6 Rodent bait packets or mechanical traps like roda boxes shall be placed in all the identified points as mentioned in the layout.
5.5.7 Roban cake would be used as chemical bait in roda boxes in outer area.
5.5.8 Trubble Gum traps would be used to trap rat and mice as mechanical control.
5.5.9 On the second day of operation, concerned personnel from the hired party and supervisor House-keeping / Administration shall ensure the disposal of dead animals, if any.
5.5.10 Every day Housekeeping / Administration personnel shall check all the building and surrounding areas of the premises for dead animals if any and ensure the disposal of the same & record in annexure.
5.5.11 Whenever any hole is noticed in the soil, carry out fumigation of that area as well as the hole.
5.5.12 House-keeping / Administration In charge shall carry out investigation in co-ordination with engineering personnel for the possible source of the rodents and corrective actions shall be taken immediately. The same shall be reviewed by Head QA for adequacy of the corrective actions.
5.6 Integrated Fly Management:
5.6.1 Target Pest: Crawling Insects and flies.
5.6.2 Chemical Used: Deltamethrine (Allerthine) and/or Solfac
5.6.3 Area of Treatment: Offices and external periphery of the buildings and sewers/drains.
5.6.4 Frequency: Daily.
5.7 Integrated Lizard Management
5.7.1 Target Pest: Lizard
5.7.2 Chemical Used: Pyrethrum
5.7.3 Area of Treatment: Outdoor especially at shaded parts.
5.7.4 Frequency: Monthly.
5.8 Pro-guard Services
5.8.1 Target Pest: Crawling insects and Flies.
5.8.2 Chemical Used: Deltamethrine 2.5% flow.
5.8.3 Area of Treatment: External periphery of the building andsewers/drains.
5.8.4 Frequency: monthly.
5.9 First Aid and Safety
5.9.1 In case of any accident happens leading to health hazard of a person by inhaling, spraying or spillage of pest control chemical, flush the infected body part with fresh water and send the person immediately for medical attention.
5.10 Compliance of the SOP
5.10.1 Once in a month, QA shall check all the records pertaining to Pest & Rodent Control to ensure the compliance as per SOP.
