1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 To describe the cleaning & operation of cleaning and operation of filter press.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This procedure is applicable for filter press present in the production Liquid department.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Operator – To perform the procedure.
3.2 Officer production- To ensure that the operation is being performed in compliance with the
SOP.

3.3 IPQA person – To ensure in-process checks, and counter check that the
Compliance is in line with SOP.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Cleaning: Type A procedure ( Batch To Batch Cleaning)
5.1.1 Ensure all the material is removed from the equipment.
5.1.2 Remove the product status label and affix ‘To be cleaned’ status label as per sop over the equipment.
5.1.3 Type A cleaning applicable for batch to batch cleaning of same strength, color, and flavor and continuous five batches.
5.1.4 Type A cleaning applicable for shift end cleaning and continue five batches.
5.1.5 Check and ensure the cleanliness and availability of accessories used for cleaning Nylon brush, Nylon scrubber, Lint free cloth, Gloves.
5.1.6 Spray potable water on the outer surface of the filter press to remove the adhered material.
5.1.7 Dismantle the filter press and remove used filter pads. Take in polybag to destroy as per sop.
5.1.8 Clean the dismantle parts with potable water followed by purified water.
5.1.9 Assemble the filter press with new filter pad for new product filtration.
5.2 Cleaning: Type B procedure
5.2.1 Ensure all the material is removed from the equipment.
5.2.2 Remove the product status label and affix ‘To be cleaned’ status label as per sop over the equipment.
5.2.3 Check and ensure the cleanliness and availability of accessories used for cleaning Nylon brush, Nylon scrubber, Lint free cloth, Gloves.
5.2.4 After continue five batches, Type B cleaning should be perform.
5.2.5 Spray potable water on the outer surface of the filter press to remove the adhered material
5.2.6 Dismantle the filter press and remove used filter pads. Take in polybag to destroy as per sop
5.2.7 Clean the dismantle parts with potable water followed by purified water.
5.2.8 Assemble the filter press.
5.2.9 Take 200 liter hot purified water (80 to 85oc) in ss container.
5.2.10 Connect the filter press to ss container, start recirculation for five minutes, Drain it.
5.2.11 Dismantle the filter press again and wipe the inner/outer surface with lint free cloth.
5.2.12 Allow them to dry on ss pellets.
5.2.13 Cleaning operation should be supervised by Production officer & necessary records should be maintained.
5.2.14 Type B Cleaning Valid For 72 Hours.
5.2.15 Type B cleaning should be performing after maintenance of any contact parts.
5.3 OPERATION



5.3.1 Ensure the surrounding areas are cleaned before starting operation.
5.3.2 Filter press consists of 23 sets of filter plates, sieves and polypropylene filter pads.
5.3.3 Place one set of filter disc (SS plate, grill, & filter pads) repeat the same for all 23 plates.
5.3.4 They are fitted with 4 long bolts and this assembly is fitted in to the chamber along with long bolt in the center.
5.3.5 Place the center rod in proper position and tighten. Tighten the side supporting rods and center rod simultaneously.
5.3.6 Place the rubber gasket properly, so that there is no leakage when tightened up in the Assembly.
5.3.7 Close the lid and tighten it properly with side clamps.
5.3.8 The required lengths of flexible hose’s are then attached to both ends of filter press. Ensure that all the openings are closed position.
5.3.9 Before set the filter pad in filter press; soak it in a purified Water for about 10-min.
5.3.10 Start the filter press the liquid is pumped in to the chamber and the air is removed from the top this top outlet is stopped when syrup starts coming out.
5.3.11 The filtered syrup is removed from the bottom out late of the chamber and liquid recalculated in to the compounding tank until the out coming solution is clear.
5.3.12 Before starting actual filtration check the clarity of solution. Check the clarity of the solution at regular interval of one hour and keep a record it
5.3.13 On completion of filtration open the filter press and collect the liquid
5.3.14 Filter the liquid through filter cloth check the clarity, if clarity is satisfactory add the above solution to filtered bulk, if clarity is not satisfactory drain the solution in present of IPQA.
5.3.15 Use filter pad for single batch only.
5.3.16 All activity to be recorded as per sop
6.0 TRAINING
6.1 Trainer: Department Head.
6.2 Trainee: Production, Quality Assurance and Operator person.
6.3 Period: one hour or as per required.
7.0 DISTRIBUTION
7.1 One set of Master copy and one set of Controlled copy submit the QA department.
