5.0 Procedure
5.1 Operation
5.1.1 Clean the Conductivity electrode with purified water.
5.1.2 Switch “ON” the main power supply.
5.1.3 Press “MODE” Key, the display will shows Conductivity and select measurement mode Conductivity.
5.1.4 Press”2” Key and than “ENTER” Key to select the Conductivity mode.
5.1.5 Enter the cell constant 0.1 of the connected cell (electrode) than display will be show calibrate: i) Y, ii) N.
5.1.6 To continue the operation press “2”.
5.1.7 Instrument get stabilize itself with message on the screen “Wait stabilizing” which shows
the measurement Conductivity and temperature.
5.1.8 Select the temperature mode (automatic or manual) for automatic temperature compensation
is to be considered during measurement at 20 to 25ºC whichever select for manual temperature
compensation, measure the solution temperature with external thermometer and then enter the correct
value if necessary.
5.1.9 Place the electrode and temperature sensor in “Sample Solution”.
5.1.10 Note down the reading direct from the display.
5.1.11 Lift the electrode with temperature sensor and rinse with purified water 2-3 times.
5.1.12 At the ends of shift “OFF” the instrument and main power supply.
5.2 Calibration (Preparation of KCl solution )
Frequency: Daily
5.2.1 Prepare standard potassium chloride solutions 0.001M as follows:
5.2.2 0.1 M KCl Solution: Transfer about 3.7265g of potassium chloride accurately weight to 500 ml
volumetric flask, dissolve in purified water and make up volume up to the mark.
5.2.3 This solution should be used within one month from the date of preparation, store the at
room temperature.
5.2.4 0.01M KCl Solution: Pipette 20ml of standard KCl solution (0.1M) to 200 ml flask and make
up to the mark with purified water.
5.2.5 0.001 M KCl solution: Pipette 20ml of standard KCl solution (0.01M) to 200 ml flask and make up
to the mark with purified water.
Note: Dilute 0.1M KCL solution to required concentration before adjusting the conductivity meter,
0.001 M KCl solution use within 7 days from the date of preparation. Store the solution at room temperature
in properly closed flask.
5.3 Procedure for Cell Constant Check
5.3.1 Follow operation procedure as per above.
5.3.2 Enter standard solution conductivity 147 µS.
5.3.3 Select Temp. Co-efficient value.
5.3.4 Observed reading and press Enter if stable.
5.3.5 If reading is within limit, the instrument will calibrate the electrode and display the conductivity.
5.3.6 Remove and wash the electrode with purified water and keep the electrode in purified water.
5.3.7 Acceptance Criteria: The observed cell constant for 0.001MKCL solution shall be as mentioned below.
Actual Cell | Cell Constant |
0.1 | 0.080 to 0.120 |
Calibration of Conductivity meter and Conductivity Cell
5.4.1 Prepare standard potassium chloride solutions 0.001 M as follows:
5.4.2 0.001 M KCL solution: Prepare as per point No. 5.2.2 to 5.2.5.
5.4.3 Cleaned the conductivity electrode with purified water.
5.4.4 Place the electrode and temperature sensor in 0.001M KCl solution.
5.4.5 Press TEMPCO Key and enter appropriate Co-efficient value.
5.4.6 Press enter Key and instrument will display Conductivity.
5.4.7 Remove and wash the electrode with purified water and keep the electrode in purified water.
5.4.8 Acceptance Criteria: The observed conductivity of standard KCl solution shall be mention below:
Concentration of standard KCl solution | Conductivity Limit |
0.001 M | 147 + 2.94 µS/cm |
