Operation and temperature monitoring of Refrigerator
1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 The objective of this SOP is to define the procedure for operation and temperature monitoring of Refrigerator.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This SOP is applicable for the operation and temperature monitoring of refrigerator in the microbiology department.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 OPERATIONAL PROCEDURE
5.1.1 The area surrounding the instrument is visible clean and uncluttered.
5.1.2 Ensure that the instrument is clean and free from dust.
5.1.3 Refrigerator should be located properly in ventilated area.
5.1.4 In Case of any spillage in the chamber, immediately clean the surface with disinfect 70% v/v Isopropyl alcohol.
5.1.5 Refrigerator should be labelled with front to back inclination for base.
5.1.6 Press the lock with key for locking/ unlocking.
5.1.7 Connect the refrigerator with main power supply and switch ON.
5.1.8 Set the Temperature with the help of Temperature control knob should maintain to give temperature between
2 to 8°C.
5.1.9 Place the materials in stand, beaker and any other container or suitable in the refrigerator.
5.1.10 Close the door properly, makes sure that there is no gap between the gasket and the cabinet of the refrigerator.
5.1.11 The defrosted water flows down to the evaporating tray, which is located in the lower back side of the refrigerator and is evaporated automatically.
5.2 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE:
5.2.1 Periodically remove the shelves, clean and disinfect with 70% v/v Isopropyl alcohol.
5.2.2 Wipe the inner surfaces of the chambers also with 70% IPA.
5.2.3 External Party shall do calibration in a year.
5.3 TEMPERATURE MONITORING:
5.3.1 The temperature of the refrigerator shall monitored as displayed by the temperature sensor is recorder two times during the day.
5.3.1 The record of temperature monitoring shall be monitored in the Format.
5.4 PRECAUTIONS
5.4.1 Don’t keep hot materials in the refrigerator.
5.4.2 Don’t open the refrigerator door too often, hot air shall enter and increase the temperature.
5.4.3 Never overload your refrigerator or cover the shelves with paper of plastic sheets as it shall reduce the efficiency.
5.4.4 Report any fault, leaks or malfunctioning immediately to the Manager- Quality Control.
5.4.5 Affix ‘Not in Use’ label to the instrument till it gets repaired and re-calibrate.
