Operation of Fire Fighting Hydrant System
1.0 Objective
To lay down a procedure for Operation of Fire – Fighting (Hydrant) System
2.0 Scope
This Standard Operating Procedure is applicable for Operation of Fire – Fighting (Hydrant) System to be followed at formulation plants of ABC pharma Pvt.Ltd.
3.0 Responsibility
3.1 Officer / Executive Engineering shall be responsible for the execution of this procedure.
3.2 Engineering Manager shall be responsible for the implementation of this SOP.
3.3 Head QA/designee shall be responsible for compliance of this SOP.

5.0 Procedure
5.1 For Fire Hydrant System
5.1.1 Open the gate valve on suction line for both the pumps (70 HP and 10HP) to fill the Water in suction line for priming. (This is to be checked; normally it is filled with water.
5.1.2 As soon as water comes out from the valve of discharge line, close the Valve.
5.1.3 Put “ON” the green push button in pump house to start jockey pump and check the discharge Pressure of pump. (Normally pressure is 7 kg/cm2).
5.1.4 Connect the fire hose with nozzle kept inside the fireboxes and connect it to the Hydrant Valve set the fire hose towards the fire.
5.1.5 Open the Hydrant valve.
5.1.6 As soon as the volume of water is insufficient to operate the nozzle, automatically motor (70hp) starts and it helps in maintaining required pressure of water. (System can be operated manually also.)
5.1.7 In case of more than 3 hydrants are required starts the 70 HP pump. (Switch is fitted in pump house near 70 HP & 10 HP pump switches.
5.1.8 For small fire, portable fire extinguishers are provided in different locations.
5.1.9 In case of fire immediately informs fire brigade office (Ph. No.01332-273099, 273101), If Phone is not available send somebody to fire brigade office at Roorkee.
5.1.10 Reporting: – Report to Manager Engineering and Fire brigade office for fire.
