Operation and Sanitization of Multi Grade filter

1.0 OBJECTIVE :

1.1 To lay down a procedure for Operation and Sanitization of Multi Grade filter.

2.0. SCOPE :

2.1 This procedure is applicable for Multi Grade Filter situated at Pharma Dekho

3.0. RESPONSIBILITY :

3.1 Operator Engineering Department shall be responsible for operation and Sanitization of Multi Grade Filter and maintaining the cleaning records.
3.2 Officer/Executive Engineering Department shall be responsible to verify the proper Multi Grade Filter.

4.0. ACCOUNTABILITY :
4.1. Head Engineering Department shall be accountable for compliance of SOP.

5.0. PROCEDURE :
5.1. Operation And Sanitization Of Multi Grade Filter
5.1.1 Start up:
5.1.1 Before starting the plant, ensure that the water inlet valve and outlet valve are open.
5.1.2 Switch ‘On’ the raw water feed pump.
5.1.3 Check the inlet pressure and outlet pressure; Inlet pressure should not be less than 3 kg/cm2 and outlet pressure 2.5 kg/cm2. If pressure drop is more than 0.5 kg/cm2, backwash the unit as per the back wash procedure.

5.1.2 Backwash:
5.1.1 Select the valve position to backwash and continuo the washing for the specified limit (10 min.) or till the effluent is clear, after complete the backwash process selects the valve position to filter for normal operation. Then close wash outlet valve and wash inlet valve.
5.1.2 Open inlet Valve and drain valve, Check the clarity of the drain water, if clear close drain valve and open outlet valve.
5.1.3 Maintain the record of backwash and rinse of Multi Grade filter on daily basis as per Annex-III.
5.1.3 Replacement of filtering sand:
5.1.3.1 Replacement of filtering sand to be carried out once in eighteen months for better performance of the system as per SOP No.1EM-010.
5.1.4 Cleaning Of Multi Grade Filter
5.1.4.1 Open the strainer filter top and bottom.
5.1.4.2 Remove sand and stone from bottom and collect in the tank.
5.1.4.3 Clean the sand stone with10 lit solution of 5% NAOH and keep it for 30 minutes.
5.1.4.4 Close the bottom of strainer and put stone one by one and sand.
5.1.4.5 Close the top of strainer and operate as per step 5.1.1 to 5.1.3.
5.1.4.6 Frequency multi grade filters cleaning in quarterly and maintain a record of cleaning record in Annex- I.
5.2 Sanitization Of Multi Grade Filter
5.2.1 Back wash the filter plants with potable water.
5.2.2 Take 1000 liters of 1% sodium hypochloride solution in the potable water storage tank.
5.2.3 Connect the out let of the multi grade Filter to tank by PVC flexible tube.
5.2.4 before starting the solution feed pump, keep the inlet and outlet valves of Multi Grade Filter open.
5.2.5 Switch ON the feed pump.
5.2.6 keep the discharge valve in throttle position till the chemical solution comes out from the Multi Grade filter.
5.2.7 Displace the water from the filters to drain, then enroute the solution back to the solution tank.

5.2.8 After injection, soak the solution for one an hour by switch OFF the pump.
5.2.9 After the specified time, restart the pump and re circulate the solution for one hour.
5.2.10 After one hour, switch OFF the pump and drain out the solution by opening the drain valves.
5.2.11 Then close the drain valve and collect the fresh water in the tank.
5.2.12 Flush out the plant by switch ON the feed pump for one an hour.
5.2.13 Check the sample for residual free chlorine. If the sample found OK, Start Multi Grade Filter, Otherwise
continue the flushing till get traces free water.
5.2.14 Sanitization of Multi Grade Filter shall be carried out once in six months.
5.2.15 Maintain the record of sanitization of Multi Grade filter on half yearly basis as par Annex –II.
