1.0 Objective 
To lay down a Procedure for Calibration of Vacuum Gauge
2.0 Scope
This Standard Operating Procedure is applicable for Procedure for Calibration of Vacuum Gauge to be followed at formulation plants
3.0 Responsibility
3.1 Officer / Executive Engineering shall be responsible for the execution of this procedure.
3.2 Engineering Manager shall be responsible for the implementation of this SOP.
3.3 Head QA/designee shall be responsible for the compliance of this SOP.

5.0 Procedure
5.1 Precautions
5.1.1 Master instruments used for calibration should be calibrated and should have its calibration certificate.
5.2 Procedure for Calibration of Vacuum Gauge.
5.2.1 Both the Calibration Standard and the Unit under Calibration (UUC) shall be Allowed to stabilize at the ambient conditions for at least 15 minutes or the warm up period recommended by the manufacturer, whichever is more.
5.2.2 The UUC shall be properly cleaned & physically inspected for any breakages & deterioration.
5.2.3 Appropriate Calibration Standard shall then be selected for calibration.
5.2.4 The Calibration Standard and the UUC shall be connected to the Calibration Equipment by using appropriate fittings.
5.2.5 It shall be ensured that there is no leakage in the calibration system i.e., Comparison Test Pump, Calibration Standard & UUC.
5.2.6 Zero setting of the Calibration Standard shall be checked & confirmed.
5.2.7 Performance of the UUC shall be checked by applying full-scale pressure by forward displacement of piston (Clockwise rotation). In case of vacuum range performance shall be checked by applying 90% of span or the maximum possible, which ever is more by backward displacement of piston (Anticlockwise rotation).
5.2.8 While doing so the indication shall be observed for confirmation of smooth functioning of the UUC.
5.2.9 The scale of the UUC shall be divided into minimum 4 points or as per the client’s specifications.
5.2.10 When the whole system is ready desired pressure shall be delivered to the Calibration Standard and the UUC from the Calibration Equipment in an ascending and then in descending order at the same points.
5.2.11 At every point, the UUC shall be lightly tapped (in case of analog gauge).
5.2.12 The desired set readings on UUC shall then be compared with that of the Calibration Standard & the observations shall be recorded in the calibration data sheet.



5.2.13 If the observed readings do not comply with the specified accuracy of the UUC, then zero and span settings shall be done by applying respective pressures to the Calibration System and repeating the steps5.3.11,5.3.12, 5.3.13, and 5.3.14 as mentioned above & the observations shall be recorded in the calibration data sheet.
5.2.14 After the calibration is over, some time shall be given for the ‘Zero’ of the UUC to stabilize.
